CBN Partners Ministry Of Education On Introduction Of Financial Literacy In Schools

In an effort to inculcate financial discipline and savings culture among Nigerian youths, the Central  Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in collaboration with Federal Ministry of Education have concluded arrangements to introduce new subject named ‘Financial Literacy’ in to public school curriculum come September 2017.

 This development was made public by the Deputy Governor in charge of corporate services of the Apex bank, Alhaji Suleiman Barau in Yola  at the opening ceremony of the Global Money Week organised for the students of Famous Aliyu Mustapha College Yola.

 Barau who was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Director overseeing Consumer Protection Unit of the bank, Mr.Tajuddeen Olayinka Ahmed said the rationale behind the outing was to educate the younger generation in the country on the best legitimate modalities on wealth creation in any chosen business adventure.

 He explained that some the social vices in our societies are caused by lack of solid background in exploring the abundant resources given to us through policies and Programmes  which expose our youths to entrepreneurship.

 He charged the students to develop a business sense by significantly saving out of the little earnings at their disposal noting that even opening a piggy accounts in banks will create a better future for youths.

 Barau also admonished the students to learn,earn and save substantial per cent of their earnings,in financial institutions licensed by central bank.

 “To commemorate this year’s program,CBN identified Lagos and Adamawa to benefit from the gesture as piloting States so that good result can attained

 “Our target is to guide or improve the knowledge and skills of our youth to be able to make effective decisions in financial engagement for fruitful results “.Barau emphasised

 Earlier in her speech, Commissioner for Education in the state represented by the Deputy Permanent secretary, Mr.Pius Francis said the development was timely and welcome one considering its importance.

 Francis therefore advised the students to be serious about the new innovative drive courtesy of CBN. 

 New Nigerian correspondent in Yola reports that the Principal and Head boy of the college expressed delight with the selection of their college for the program and solicited for intervention of the Apex bank with a view to enhance conducive learning atmosphere for the students and teachers.
