Cancer: Bauchi First Lady embarks on sensitisation

The Bauchi state First Lady, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar has unveiled her plan to embark on cancer awareness across the twenty Local Government Areas of the state.
Hadiza spoke during a sensitization lecture organized for different women associations in Bauchi State.
The first lady who is the founder of a Non-Governmental Organization, ‘Sustainable Women Economic Empowerment and Peace Initiative’ said her office in collaboration with the management of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi will sensitize women across the state especially rural women on prevention of cancer disease.
“We are determined to visit all the nooks and crannies of Bauchi State to sensitize our women as part of our effort to fight cancer disease in the state”.
Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar charged women to always avail themselves for screening against cancer disease particularly breast cancer to enable early treatment if detected.
She said “we need to embark on preventive measures in our fight against cancer so that is why we must always go for cancer examination especially breast cancer screening so that if detected, it can be easily be treated.
“A cancer patient can live a qualitative life while receiving treatment hence the need for screening to enable early detection” she added.
The Chief Medical Director of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, Dr. Alkali Mohammed has in a welcome address commanded the governor’s wife for the cancer sensitization programme.
Dr. Mohammed said ATBUTH has been equipped with all necessary facilities for cancer screening and treatment, assuring that the hospital will partner with the governor’s wife in her fight against cancer disease in the state.
