Defending champions of the annual Lagos State Private Secondary Schools Football competition tagged “Proprietors Cup”, Caleb International College, Ikosi- Isheri, Lagos has successfully defended the title by winning the competition for a record second time in a row.
In an entertaining finals decided at the Ronik Comprehensive School, Egbeda, Lagos, the school defeated the host by 4-3 to retain the title they won last year.
The match which was watched by an appreciable crowd, saw the host school scoring the first goal after 15 minutes of play. This goal made the defending champions fight back gallantly and recorded the equaliser in the dying minutes of the first half
Caleb International School came out strongly in the second half scoring three goals in quick succession. However, this spurred Ronik players into action and they were able to score additional two goals to end the game 4-3 at regulation time.
In the third place match, Barachel College defeated Sagab College by 5-4 penalties after their game ended 1-1 at full time while in the female category, Homat Pivotal College defeated Ronik Comprehensive College 2-0 to emerge winners.
Presenting the trophy to the winning school, Special Guest of Honour and Director of Ronik Comprehensive School, Mrs. R.O Alabi commended the players for exhibiting good spirit of sportsmanship throughout the duration of the tournament
Director Caleb International School, Dr, Ola Adebogun attributed the success recorded by her school to the excellent sporting facilities provided by the school’s management noting that for over two decades, the school has been combing academics with sports.
Organisers of the tournament, Prince Adewale Atiba of Atico Global Concepts Limited explained that the decision to organise the championship was to encourage development of sports in private schools in Lagos State as well as encourage good rivalry among the students.
