President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday condoled the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir over the death of the Chief Imam of Katsina Central Mosque, Imam Muhammad Lawal.
The 95-year-old Chief Imam died following a protracted illness on Sunday.
The President, who was at the emir’s palace in Katsina, described the deceased as a humble, responsible scholar who had impacted positively on the lives of the people.
Buhari said the loss was not only to the people of Katsina but also the Islamic world which has lost a repository of knowledge.
He prayed Allah to forgive the sins of the deceased and grant him eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.
Responding, the Emir appreciated the visit by the President, saying that it was a monumental loss to all Muslims.
Kabir said the people of Katsina would miss the late Imam’s teachings and advice.
New Nigerian gathered that Imam Lawal was appointed the Chief Imam of Katsina 41 years ago by late Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Usman Nagogo.
