Buhari Accepts Mama Taraba’s Resignation As Women Affairs Minister

Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the resignation of Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan (Mrs) as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development from the government with immediate effect.

This was contained in a statement Sunday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu.

Alhassan had tendered her letter of resignation from the federal cabinet as minister as well as her membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) last Friday following her ‎disqualification by the party leadership to contest for governor of her state on the APC plaform.

According to the statement, in a letter signed Sunday, President Buhari said, “I have received your letter offering your resignation as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I accept your resignation with immediate effect.

“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I thank you for your past services to the nation.”

The statement also noted that the President had directed that the work of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development be looked after by Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment. This, also, is with immediate effect.
