British Envoy Lauds EFCC Under Magu

The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ambassador Paul Arkwright has lauded the “fantastic performance and successes” recorded by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The envoy, on a visit to the commission on Thursday, also promised that the British Government will continue to support Nigeria in the fight against economic crimes and in the promotion of credible elections.

Specifically, Mr. Arkwright said the UK is interested in a close collaboration between the EFCC and the Independent National Electoral Commission. “Such collaboration is necessary to ensure the integrity of the electoral process and especially the 2019 General Elections,” he emphasized.

He recalled the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the UK in 2016 even as he promised maintaining the support of the British Government in the fight against corruption.

Mr. Arkwright, in company of Danny Murphy, the liaison officer of the British Crime Agency, expressed delight in the assurance of the acting chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu to sustain the tempo on anti- corruption crusade.

Magu also assured the envoy that the commission’s activities are free of any political interference even as he reiterated the deep collaboration between EFCC and INEC to minimize the influence of money in all elections in the country.

Magu said the commission welcomes criticisms at all times and insisted that every case handled by the agency will always pass through diligent investigation.

“We will not be deterred in doing our job. But we are open to criticisms and suggestions for improvement”, said Magu.
