Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has assented the amended penal code law provided for death sentence to those found guilty of kidnapping and cattle rustling.
This is in addition to life imprisonment and fine as well as payment of damages to victims by those found guilty of the offence.
Also assented to by the governor was the administration of criminal Justice law intended to ensure speedy administration of Justice.
Shortly after asserting the two laws, governor Amnu Masari hoped that punishment provided would serve as deterrent to those who may be convicted and others having the intention to commit same.
Earlier the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Ahmed El marzuk said the reviewed penal code captured and addressed the emerging crimes bedeviling the nation particularly the north and hoped that with the massage of the law, crimes would be fully addressed while those found guilty punished accordingly.
The Attorney General said the administration of criminal Justice on the other hand was domesticated by the state after being passed by National Assembly.
The law he said, would facilitate speedy trials at the courts.
