Ageless Nigerian boxer, Bash Ali remains positive that his much talked about Guinness Book of World record fight will happen before the end of the second quarter of this year.
He told our correspondent on Monday that he has started discussions with the Lagos State Sports Commission who have agreed to send a memo to Governor Akinwunmi Ambide for the fight to hold on May 25, 2019.
According to him, once the Governor gives approval, a new Local Organising Committee would be put in place for a successful hosting of the fight.
” Right now we’ ve began discussion with the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Sports Commission who has promised to forward a memo to his Excellency for the fight to hold on May 25. this year.
” It’ s true that we had some hiccups in the past which dragged the fight till this time but am optimistic we’ re coming to the end of the tunnel”, he said.
According to the 63 year old Cruiserweight boxer who received his license Wednesday from the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control ( NBB of C) noted that 10 top boxers are already lined up face him in the fight even as he stated that his would be opponent would be selected from among the boxers after a meeting between the Governor of Lagos State and officials of World Boxing Union ( WBU) and International Boxing Federation ( IBF).
Bash while promising that he will not only shock the world but also re- write. boxing history assured that he is fit and ready to go against any of his opponents who is in their 30’s.
” I know that a lot of people will be imagining what a 63 year old man wants to achieve fighting boxers far younger than him. Some are even wondering whether I want to commit suicide but the truth of the matter is that I’ m out to shock the World and re- write boxing history”, he concluded.
