Betty Akeredolu Begins Health Week For Children

Ondo State  Ministry of Health in collaboration with the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu has commenced a week long  Maternal, Newborn Child Health as part of efforts to curb polio and other diseases among children.
Speaking at the occasion in Akure,  Mrs. Akeredolu emphasised the role of mothers noting that they do not just build the nation but are critical in nurturing it, adding that there is nothing more fulfilling than this sacred task of raising children and by extension, building the nation.

While commending the government of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu  for creating an enabling environment and resources needed for the successful implementation of the June 2018 round of MNCHW as well as other numerous healthcare interventions aimed at ensuring child protection, survival and development in the state, tge wife of the governor acknowledged the collective efforts of LGA chairmen, women leaders , market women, traditional and religious leaders and numerous NGO in the state who have been working towards providing healthcare services at the grassroots.

She also used the opportunity to highlight some of the successes of Accelerated Birth Registration under the Olori connection initiative.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Hon Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro affirmed that the weeklong programme is aimed at delivering integrated package of health services for children under age 5 and as well pregnant women

While noting that the last round of the 2017 MNCHW was very successful, he also lauded Governor Akeredolu for building the future generation of the state, stressing that committed health workers have been trained for the exercise both at the state and local level noting that it will be an ongoing project.

A UNICEF representativr, Tubde Ayoade urged parents to take advantage of the programme and immunize their children. 

Activities lined up for the weeklong programme  include routine Immunization, administration of Viatmin A supplements, Birth Registration, Screening for Malnutrition, HIV counseling and testing to mention a few.
