The Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG) has matriculated 5, 896 newly registered students for the 2018/2019 academic session.
The matriculation ceremony of the new students admitted into the social management sciences faculty of the university was held Thursday at the Yuli campus, Bauchi.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Auwalu Uba explained that 16, 908 candidates applied for admission this year out of which 6, 353 were admitted into the various programmes spread across the three operational campuses.
The Vice Chancellor urged the 5, 896 registered from the 6, 353 admitted to consider their admission as great achievement in view of the number of applications received by the institution.
“Matriculation confers on the participating student candidates, full membership of the institution having fulfilled all necessary requirements”, he said, urging them to excel in their academic pursuits.
According to him, with the matriculation, every student is entitled to all rights and privileges recognized by the institution which include right to access information in the library and enjoyment of all available teaching and learning facilities.
He enjoined them to shun all forms of social vices such as cultism, sexual misbehavior, indecent dressing, examination malpractices, thugggery, fraudulent acts and other nefarious activities while in the school to avoid expulsion.
Delivering a paper entitled “Academic Culture Processes and Procedures Guiding Studentship in the University System”, the Guest Speaker, Aminu Tukur told the students that those who have problems such as ill-health, financial difficulties could defer their admission on payment of some non-refundable fees.
He also said that students can have their courses changed where they could not register for the due to observed deficiency, withdrawal on academic ground and interdisciplinary transfer due to low performance.
