Organizations working to improve health delivery in Bauchi State on Sunday ended a three-day workshop with a call on community health service providers to deliver better healthcare to the people of the state.
Dr. Saidu Aliyu Gital, the state’s Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, explained that the workshop which ended in Jos was organised by the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with Bauchi Opportunities for Responsive Neonatal and Maternal Health (BORN) project and implemented by Plan International.
“We want to be on the same page by harmonising the structures we use for our interventions so that we can derive maximum benefits. When we do that, we will be more efficient in delivering service to the people and the work will be more coordinated.”
The Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria (BACATMA) Dr. Mansur Dada added that the state was loaded with health volunteers due to the number of MDA’s and international partners working to ensure better health care delivery.
“The challenge we are having is that there is no good communication between the different organisations that are working in the communities, so there is a lot of duplications, waste and inefficiency.”
According to him,  with a harmonised structure more communities will be covered to adding that, “maternal, child, nutrition as well as infection indices will likely improve thereby reducing the rate at which people are becoming sick as well as die from disease.”
Earlier the project Manager of BORN, Muhammad Nasir Musa said the state intends to be the first to roll out the Community Health Influencers and Promoters Services (CHIPS) adding that, “we hope to have a harmonised guideline and if we are able to implement all resolutions from this meeting then we will be ready for the CHIPS programme.”
