Bauchi South Senatorial Bye-election Is A litmus Test For INEC Boss, Says SDP Scribe

National Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Musa Gabam has observed that the outcome of this Saturday’s Bauchi South Senatorial by-election will be a litmus test for the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud Yakubu who is from the Bauchi south senatorial district.
The Social Democratic Party Scribe explained that the credibility of the INEC boss will be put to test with the acceptability or otherwise of the results by all the contending parties in the Bauchi South bye-elections.
“You know that the INEC Chairman is from Bauchi state and as fate will have it, he is from Bauchi south senatorial district. His ability to conduct a free, fair and acceptable by-election will either make or mar his credibility. I therefore expect nothing less than near perfect conduct of the exercise”, Gabam said.
He opined that all eyes will be on INEC to see whether it will come out clean in the conduct of the bye-election, saying that the INEC Chairman has over the years built credibility for himself which contributed to his appointment.
Gabam was also gratified that the chances of the SDP candidate to the bye-election, Maryam Garba Bagel are very bright attributable her track records.
The SDP Chieftain said, “Bagel is an astute and dogged politician who has impacted positively on the lives of the people of Dass constituency that she is presently representing at the State House of Assembly”.
