Bauchi Citizens Express Disgust Over Inconclusive Governorship Election Declaration

INEC Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bauchi announcement that the last Saturday’s Governorship election eas inconclusive has been described as embarrassing, disappointing and disheartening.

The decision, according to the Bauchi citizens, portrays the position of INEC and Security agencies in the state of protecting the interest of government instead of the constitutional mandate of the people.

The citizens, in a press conference on Wednesday led by their chairperson and secretary, Rhoda Jibrin and Aliyu Ladan respectively, said the decision robbed constitutional mandate of the people of the stare given to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The citizens therefore, urged the investigation committee set up by the INEC headquarters in Abuja to kindly temper justice with mercy while discharging its responsibility to the people.

According to the citizens, the committee should verify whether the 9th March election was conducted peacefully and successfully or not for the sake of peace, harmony and stability of Bauchi state and the nation at large.

The called on the generality of people of Bauchi state to get mobilized to commence peaceful demonstration on 20th March, 2019 to register their protest on the state of the nation.

The concerned citizens also want immediate redeployment of the state commissioner of police and officer in-charge of Rapid Response Squad of the Force for the sake of peace, harmony and stability of the state.

“The result of Tafawa Balewa LGA elections be considered by INEC since it was conducted and satisfied by the Returning Officer, Mrs. Dominion Anosike and confirmed by all stakeholders including security agencies, party agents and electoral officers”, citizens said.

They therefore want the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Gubernatorial candidate be declared as the legitimate winner of the 9th March election while the supplementary election be ignored and discarded.

The citizens similarly demand the Returning Officer of the state tender an apology letter to the people of Bauchi state for making them highly uncomfortable with his sentimental declaration of the election results as inconclusive.
