The outgoing 8th Legislative Assembly in Bauchi state has passed a total of 76 bills in its four years of deliberations, the Speaker of the House, Kawuwa Shehu Damina, has disclosed.
The Speaker explained that 31 of the bills were from the Executive Arm of the Government while 45 were private and from the House legislators.
Damina, in his speech during the valedictory session of the House Friday at the Assembly Complex in Bauchi, said that 120 motions were moved by the members, as 84 matters of public importance were tendered by the lawmakers.
According to him, the House received 45 messages from the former Governor, Mohammed Abubakar and 20 petitions were also presented by individual members of the public and organizations.
He further disclosed that 81 Committee reports were received by the Assembly within the period under review, recalling however that members started as amateurs but became transformed into eloquent debaters.
Damina stated, “I stand bold to say that the 8th Bauchi State House of Assembly has been a great success, this is without any iota of contradiction or apology to whoever may hold any contrary view and our scorecard is there for everyone to judge us”.
“We started from the cradle as amateur Legislators that found themselves in a very critical period of recession, but later transformed into good motion movers to eloquent debaters and good participants at National Legislative arena through prudence, mutual cooperation and zeal to develop the state at heart. These spirits have made us to be one of the best legislators in the country”, he contented.
The 8th legislative Assembly Speaker thanked members for the cooperation, peservance and trust he enjoyed from them, saying “This was no doubt the secret that made us excelled and recorded these achievements that surpassed the record of our predecessors, and I assure you that history will judge us right in the future”.
Rt. Hon. Kawuwa Shehu Damina asked for forgiveness from all the legislators “for the offence we loyal knowingly and unknowingly and I take responsibility of all our actions and inactions as a leader”.
