Baptist College of Theology, Igede Ekiti at the weekend graduated the first set of 20 students in Bachelor of Theology and 56 others in various categories.
Among the 2018 graduands were 17 in Diploma in Theology, Diploma in Religious education_1, Special Diploma in Theology_7, Certificate in Theology_13 while 18 had Certificate in Pastoral Ministry.
Six people, High Chief Emmanuel Akinsola Adetona, the Odofin of Igede_ Ekiti who donated a 14 room hostel and Michael Omole Ultra Modern Library to the college and five others were awarded Meritorious Service Award.
Speaking at the occasion, the President Nigeria Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Supo Ayokunle, who was represented at the occasion by Rev. Remi Olaleye said the Convention expends over N56 million monthly to ten Theological Colleges across the country and Global Mission Board.
According to him, the N30 million monthly subvention given to the ten colleges and the N26 million monthly to Global Mission Boards are not sufficient to take care of the needs of those institutions.
He therefore called on Conferences, host communities, churches and well meaning individuals and groups of people to assist the Convention to finance her local agencies to grow into an enviable heights.
The Guest speaker at the occasion, Rev. Prof. Emiola Nihinlola charged the graduands to be Kingdom conscious in the discharge of their Ministerial duties.
According to him, Theological education is God centered adding that they should make an impact in their Ministries by preaching the Kingdom of God rather than pursuing worldly materials.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Rector of the College, Rev. Dr. Olugbenga Olagunju said the College is where men and women are trained in various theological, Ministerial and educational fields.
The College, he said is saddled with the responsibility of producing highly qualified ministers for the Convention and Christian community at large.
He how ever disclosed the challenges encountered by the College in her in ability to meet up with the payment of staff salaries as well as inability to employ both Academic and Non academic staff for the college.
He therefore called on supporting Conferences and churches to make generous contributions to enable the college expand her developmental goals.
One of the Bachelor of Theology graduands, Pastor Olorunnisola Esther Funmilayo top the list of those that went home with various awards.
Also, the Public Relations Officer of the college, Rev. Ayo Ogunmiloyo’s award, in honour of his late Mrs. Mojisola Ogunmiloyo which is for best graduating Home Management student went to Pastor Mrs. Olawumi Faleye.
