Chairman of Kaduna State Handball Association, Abubakar Ahmed expressed this while approached to comment on the opening ceremony.
“We have discovered lots of talents who are future assets and future materials to the handball family. What we are seeing is a great achievement for handball stakeholders, be it players, officials and the federation,” he added.
Ahmed explained that the 2016 Banjoko Premier League has set new standards for handball in the country, with several innovations that are displayed through creativity and originality.
“It is a fantastic beginning and there would be several improvements before the end. We have brought in creativity and originality. There is a standard set, upgraded from what it used to be, not only for the players, but also for the referees,” he explained.
He praised the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) for the innovations they have introduced, while commending the sponsors, Banjoko Oil and Gas for bringing the game of handball back to life in Nigeria.
“For now we have started the league at the outdoor courts where several matches can be played at once, but before we end on April 23, we will move to the indoor sports hall,” he assured.
A total of 25 teams from all over Nigeria are featuring in the premier league. The teams will play each other in a round robin fixture before the winners will emerge from those who garnered the highest points.
