Bakoji Stars put up a brilliant display to lift the trophy of the maiden edition of the Hon Mukhtar Ahmed Monrovia Peace and Unity Soccer Competition in Kaduna.
They emerged champions after beating hard fighting Ayaga FC 5-4 via penalty kicks after both teams played 1-1 draw at regulation time in the final played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium on Sunday.
Bakoji had taken the lead in the early minutes of the second half after both teams played a barren draw.
Ayaga leveled up shortly before the centre referee blew the final whistle to the delight of the almost full capacity of the stadium.
In an interview with newsmen, sponsor of the competition, Hon Morovia said that it was organised to keep the youths positively engaged.
“I decided to sponsor this because at festive times like this, youth end up seeking fun and gathering at Gamji Gate or Pixie Dixie Park where they may be introduced into drugs or other negative habits” he said.
He added that another reason he wass sponsoring the competition was to discover hidden talents that would make the state and the country proud in the future.
While assuring that it would be an annual event, even with a bigger participation from the entire state, he advised youth to be serious with their education so that they can be responsible citizens in the future.
