Protest votes over instances of impunity, abuse of party rules and it’s supremacy by the leadership and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) as well as internal wrangling within the party were responsible for the emergence of the governing All Progressives Congress, (APC), on the corridors of power in Nigeria, Ambassador Ahmed Musa Ibeto has said.
He recalled that following series of cases of impunity, disrespect to party supremacy and rule of law that were heady within the PDP ahead of the 2015 general elections, the sad developments degenerated to explosive snow balls of protests which led to the ouster of the PDP from the saddle of power.
Ambassador Ibeto is the immediate deputy governor in Niger state. He is a front runner aspirant seeking for the sole ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party in Niger state to fly the party’s flag in the 2019 gubernatorial race.
Ibeto was at Rijau, on Tuesday ahead of PDP gubernatorial primary election now rescheduled for next Sunday as against Friday this week as earlier announced.
He told party executives, delegates and elders in the council area to avoid the pitfalls and recklessness of the past which caused the PDP it’s number one position.
Ibeto was once the a Chairman of the council area. He admonished members of the party to team up in rebuilding the party and vote for it in all up coming elections.
He hailed the decision of the national leadership of the PDP in granting parole to all those who had left the PDP in the twilight of the last general elections and described the general pardon as large hearted and wisest thing to do.
Ibeto said the efforts to retrieve power from the hands of those now in the corridors of power must be taken up religiously as an ultimate sacrifice to rescue Nigerians from the hands of misfits and deceitful despots.
Ambassador Ibeto is on tour of council areas in the state to meet with PDP stakeholders and leadership prelude to the party’s primary election.
He said PDP members in the state must rise and stream up to wrestle power from those it relinquished power to in 2015 because those who took over the reigns of administration of the state have proved inefficient in governance and disastrous in public administration.
The gubernatorial hopeful said Nigerians must stand up and reject another four years of pains, suffering and forced penury on them by a regime that is not sensitive to the yearnings of its citizens nor is it people-friendly.
“Let us not make the same mistakes we did before. It is dangerous for us to be foolhardy and to take anything for granted as a political party. God is ultimate, the owner and the giver of power” he added.
He noted that it was regrettable that PDP lost power to a political party that craves power but had no no-know-how on how to manage men and materials hence the untold hardship, pains and penury in country.
A large crowd of PDP stakeholders and party leadership in the council had converged at the party Secretariat at Rijau to receive the Ahmed Musa Ibeto gubernatorial campaign council.
A cross section of members of the party lamented the fate that had befallen citizens in the hands of APC led administration in the state where according to various speakers, everything had taken the turn for the worse in the last three and half years.
While pledging their votes to his aspiration, members of the party enjoined delegates to the primary election from the council to shun money politics. “Dont sell your votes as delegates to money bags. We want someone who can rescue us from backwardness” they insisted.
