The Leadership of Atiku Youth Volunteers Network in conjunction with House of Assembly Aspirants Forum for Atiku, have condemned in totality the act of assault, and intimidation meted on their Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, whom they said is likely  to win the Presidential seat in the next general election.
A statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon Yahaya Salisu, made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Monday, said the action smacks of insensibility on the part of the present administration.
“The incident which occurred at the Airport on Sunday morning, on his arrival from Foreign trip,  is no doubt a pointer to the insensibility, lack of focus and disrespect to the human lives of Nigerians by the present administration, which we have always complained about.
“It is very disheartening for a highly respected former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, an International Businessman, a Presidential hopeful of the biggest Political Party in Africa (PDP), to be accorded such a disgraceful act by agents of government. This we find unacceptable!” It stated.
The group explained that while it respects the constitutional duties and responsibilities of the various security outfits in the country,  such powers should not be used on innocent and responsible Nigerians but rather should be channelled on curbing the many security challenges like killing of innocent people by unknown gunmen, kidnapping,  Boko Haram,  cultism and other vices which the country is facing daily.
They called on all well meaning Nigerians and the International community to rise up in defense of the country’s Nascent Democracy.
“We should not allow a few vision less and outdated people to ruin our country. Nigeria belongs to all of us and it’s our duty to safeguard its supreme existence.
“Our Security Agencies have the responsibility of protecting each and every Nigerian citizen without fear or favor, they should be neutral while discharging their responsibilities, as anything short of that will make us lose confidence on them and that may result to creating a lawless society.
“We therefore expect a level playing ground standard to be exercised by this security agencies, before, during and after the General elections,  as anything short of that, will not be tolerated.
“Finally,  we wish to call on all our supporters and indeed all patriotic Nigerians to remain calm and continue with the mobilization and sensitization towards taking over power, come 2019. ATIKU ABUBAKAR is a strong man of his word,  he can never be intimidated. Let’s work together to save our country from total collapse,” it concluded.
