The Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) National Coordinating Council on weekend declared that a cabal within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are bent at allegedly hijacking the party’s structure from Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his fellow team of progressives who laboured to build the party.
OPC in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan signed by Comrade Sina Akinpelu on behalf of the OPC National Coordinating Council (NCC) vowed to resist any attempt to denigrate and humiliate the APC National Leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In the statement, OPC pointed out that with the recent remarks by the First Lady, Hadjia Aisha Buhari, “it is now obvious that a cabal” had allegedly hijacked the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
OPC NCC alleged that the cabal has “not only succeeded in hijacking the apparatus of government but are bent on seizing the structure of the APC, which people like Tinubu and his fellow team of progressives laboured to build”.
“Like him or hate him, Tinubu is a politician who understands the
rudiments of politics. It is because of his mastery of politics that has made President Muhammadu and host of others to be where they are today. Tinubu, a shrewd strategist and a well grounded politician is always a step ahead of his contemporaries. That is why this cabal is doing everything to weaken the structure Tinubu used years to build”he said
The group while describing Asiwaju Tinubu “as an illustrious Yoruba leader who has paid his dues in the political firmament of the country,” added that “there is no Nigerian leader either dead or alive who has achieved what Tinubu has achieved Nigeria”.
“OPC is aware that the cabal believed that Asiwaju Tinubu is the only threat, an obstacle to realization of their pernicious agenda of been in charge of the present administration, they cannot go far”.
He emphasized that no amount of campaign of calumny by the cabal will change the fact that Tinubu is a ‘record breaker’ whose feat will no doubt go down in history, adding that without Asiwaju Tinubu and the votes from the South West, President Muhammadu Buhari would not have had the opportunity of becoming the President.
“It is however very sad that a zone that played such a pivotal role in ensuring victory for Mr. President is today being neglected and its leaders relegated”.
Cautioning that Asiwaju “Tinubu should not be treated like the late Chief MKO Abiola, he commended Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and others that  condemned the alleged gang-up against Asiwaju Tinubu.
“The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose is truly a Yoruba man.
While other governors who rode on Tinubu’s back to power have kept quiet; Fayose despite not being a member of the APC came out to defend this Yoruba leader”.
