APC Congresses: Stakeholders Express Displeasure, Suspect Foul Play

Barr. Utum Eteng & Nat. Vice chairman, South South, Ntufam Hilard Etta.

Stakeholders in the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), have called for the publication of lists of delegates after the ward Congresses in the 18 local government area of Cross River State.

They have alleged that elections did not hold in some wards and local government areas in the state.

In a press briefing in Calabar on Thursday, the National Vice Chairman, South/South, Ntufam Hilard Etta, regretted that  72 hours to the state congress, the list of the delegates has not been published.

“We are very concerned over the desperation of some people to cause crisis in the state, Etta said”.

He described the development as “very painful and fraudulent. I am really pained that a party that was founded on the principles or change could behave this way”.

On whether there was loss of life in Yakurr where he said “there were several gun shots but there was no loss of life”.

He said that the matter has been reported to the chairman of the committee, Major General Umar Askagu, whom he said is  very sad over the ugly development.

Askagu, promised to look into their observations with a view to allowing transparency to take place.

Also speaking, Chief Utum Eteng, said “it will be shameful for General Umar’s committee to fail to give the people  of Cross River State a true and honest published list of those who received the mandate of the people at the grassroots level”.

“It will not speak well of APC is such fraud is allowed to go unchecked. Any member/person who took part in this fraud is guilty of a criminal offence to attract police investigation, he added”.

According to him ” to hold a state congress without sorting out this vital issues will be counter productive and could lead to violence in the state APC”.

Eteng added “General Umar must have an eye on the subterranean activities of some of his members who are out to commercialise the process”.

He also announced that as at the time of filing this report, the secretary of the committee and another member had absconded and are nowhere to found. Maybe they may have left for Abuja to present in the doctored results.

The police, DSS, INEC and other security agencies are yet to submit their independent reports.

It would be recalled that the Dr. Stanley Okezie,  led committee failed to conduct a peaceful congress in the state, but was removed from heading the committee.
