Alleged Fraud: University Staff Docked

For allegedly involved in fraudulent obtainance of N152, 000 from admission seeker, a member of staff of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE Ekiti State, Alhassan Sheriff, 32, was on Thursday arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Oye-Ekiti.
The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Rabi Umàr told the court that the defendant sometimes in 2014 obtained the money from his victim, one Segun Olofintuyi with the pretence of helping him get the University’s admission.
A copy of the charge sheet made available to newsmen reads: “That you Alhassan Sheriff, m, 32, of the Demographic Department of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, (FUOYE), Ekiti State sometimes in December,2014.
“At Oye-Ekiti of Oye Local Government Area, in Oye Magisterial District did obtain by false pretence the sum of N152,000 only from one Segun Olofintuyi,m, of NO 11 Wale Olofin, Agbado Ijaye Lagos to get admission for him.
“A representation you know to be false.”
The prosecutor also told the court that the offence committed by the defendant contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code Vol.,1 Cap C16 Laws of EKiti State, 2012.
He, however prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him prepare for the case.
While the defendant, who was not represented by any counsel pleaded not guilty to the one count charge against when it was read to him by the Court.
The trial Chief Magistrate, Omonike Adegoke thereafter granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum.
Adegoke added that one of the sureties must be on grade level 15 and also reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
She then adjourned the case to March 24 for mention.
