Make good use of the FIFA World Cup break and maintain a high level of self discipline as professional footballers, Paul Bassey has charged Akwa Utd players as they proceed on break.
Bassey who is the Chairman of the club, gave the charge during a farewell get together party with the players and staff of the team to officially announce the break.
He urged the players to take advantage of the break to engage more in personal training, watch the FIFA World Cup matches as well as learn new skills and techniques that will help them raise their game.
The club boss congratulated the players and staff of the club for their contributions, dedication and sacrifice towards the team’s achievements so far this season which have seen them occupy second position on the log.
“Gentlemen, the World Cup is an ample opportunity for you to learn more footbal0ling skills at the highest level. As you will be enjoying the FIFA World Cup with your family and friends, remember that you are professional footballers, watch the football festival with keen interest and do your best to learn new skills and techniques that will help you to improve your game.
“Discipline yourselves as professionals and stay away from those things you know may ruin your career. Maintain your fitness level and ensure you return in good shape to complete this NPFL battle from where you left off.
“I wish to thank all of us for all the hard work and sacrifices we have made to move this club forward. Let me quickly remind us that the battle is not yet over, we are only embarking on break because of the FIFA World Cup that is coming up in Russia from 14th of this month,” he stated.
In a remark, Coach Abdu Maikaba charged the players to remain focused on the task ahead and ensure that they use the World Cup break period to improve on their weaknesses in order to get back stronger for the remaining matches of the season.
Responding on behalf of the players Vice- Captain Ariwachukwu Emmanuel expressed appreciation to the club Chairman, Mr. Paul Bassey and Coach Maikaba for their timely advice to the players and assured the management of the team that the players will return after the break with renewed vigour and fighting spirit that will help the club meet its aspirations this season.
Akwa United players who were not part of the team that traveled to Damaturu began their break on Thursday 7th June while those who played in Yobe on Sunday began theirs on Monday 11th June. The players will return to camp in Uyo on the 27th of June to resume preparations for the remaining part of the 2018 NPFL season.
