Akwa Ibom NUJ Commends Govt For Promoting Local Content

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council has lauded the state government for engaging indigenous contractors in the execution of road projects in the state, thereby promoting local contents.
The Union at its January Congress held on Thursday at the Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo, urged the state government to keep the tempo in order to check capital flight.
Congress also commended the state government for initiating the Health Insurance Scheme (HIS) for practicing journalists in the state where 150 journalists with health challenges would benefits under the first phase.
Congress advised government not to allow politics to interfere with governance and to continue to deliver democratic dividends to the people.
Congress resolved and called on members to report objectively all the activities of the state government in the interest of the state and its people.
Arising from the need for quality representation of the state, Congress urged the people of the state to always elect people that can represent the state effectively at the state and national assembly as election is around the corner.
The Union equally commended the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen for his dedication to duties and effective supervision of road contracts in the state and also commended the state government for the number of road projects executed across the state.
Congress urged other government officials in the state to emulate the Commissioner for Works by briefing the media regularly on the activities of their various ministries and agencies for effective reportage by the media.
Congress commended Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen who is the Grand Patron of Zone F of the NUJ, for pledging to support the completion of a 2-Story Office Complex at the Press Centre in Uyo and other activities of the Union.
Congress frowned at the activities of Port Harcourt Electricity Distributing Company (PHEDC) in Akwa Ibom in the area of electricity supply and maintenance of its equipment and called on the federal government to check the activities of the Company to make them more responsive to the needs of the electricity consumers.
The Congress was presided over the Council’s Chairman, Elder Patrick Albert and was attended by members and friends of the Union including the Grand Patron of NUJ Zone F, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen who is also the State Commissioner for Works and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Projects Monitoring, Mr. Monday Etok-Akpan.
