The Ikono local government of Akwa Ibom says it has acquired three power transformers as part of efforts aimed at boosting electricity to many communities in the area.
The development is also hoped to boost the socio-economic lives of the people by promoting entrepreneurial skills in line with the state government drive to industrialize the state.
In the same way, it has trained 315 youths in various skills through a skill training programme instituted by the council.
Itoro Columba, chairman of the local government transition committee made this known at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, headquarters of the local government area during a thanksgiving service organized by Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council.
Meanwhile, the wife of the governor has inaugurated 215 units of open sheds at Obo urban market, Oduok junction in the local government area.
Speaking while inaugurating the projects she commended the foresight of the Transition Chairman, Itoro Columba and his team for their approach towards delivering the dividends of democracy to the rural dwellers especially the women.
According to Mrs. Emmanuel, the project initiated and completed by the council were an indication that the management of the council has shown commitment to bringing development to the rural communities and urged others to emulate their good gesture.
She also thanked the people of the area for their love, support and solidarity to the state government, adding that Governor Udom Emmanuel is committed to delivering more dividends of democracy to the people.
The governor’s wife also presented certificates to graduates of the skill acquisition programme christened ‘Martha’s Skilled Ambassadors,’
While thanking the governor’s wife for inaugurating the projects, the chairman of the transition committee said despite the current economic realities in the country, the local government decided to initiate some projects to improve economic activities in the area and urged for more support to the council and the state government.
