The All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has rejected the results of the 2019 general elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.

Addressing a press conference in Uyo, the state capital on Monday, APC accused INEC of unholy practices in connivance with the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to deny the party of victory at the polls.

Mr. Ini Okopido, the APC state chairman who read the text of the press conference described the results of the election as announced by INEC as “the most embarrassing electoral fraud” ever conceived since the return of democratic rule in Nigeria 19 years running.

Okopido alleged that the results which were announced by INEC were at variance with results counted and announced at the polling units in the state as obtained their party agents.

According to him, results rather announced was contrived, manipulated and concocted to the suit the unholy alliance between the commission and PDP.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission, in collusion with the PDP, committed an electoral coup against the people of Akwa Ibom state by publishing and announcing such results that has not bearing with the results as counted and announced at the various units in the state,” Okopido said.

He said that the result of the governorship and state house of assembly elections in the state, as obtained by agents across the state, showed clearly that the APC won in 26 out of the 31 local government areas of the state.

According to him, the results as obtained by the agents showed a remarkable closeness in the number of votes polled by each of the two major political parties.

Rejecting the results, Mr. Okpido said APC will rather insist on the result of the election from the field, which gave our party and overwhelming  victory in the 26 local government areas, adding that the APC will adopt every legitimate means to reclaim its lost mandates as freely given by the electorate during the polls but which was later denied.

While he called on all authorities to join hands with APC in taking appropriate action, he also advised party faithful in the state to remain calm, assuring that hopes are not lost.
