Abuja: missing the Christmas Lights; FCDA fails to decorate Area I roundabout
By; Jacob Onjewu Dickson.
The traditional Christmas decorations and lightings that have become a tradition during the tenure of the immediate past FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed are missing this year, giving the City Centre in Abuja a dull appearance this yuletide.
New Nigerian’s tour of the city few days to Christmas reveals that the decorations which have become  tourist attractions in the recent past, are visibly absent.
A commercial cab operator who did not want his name in print, said that the absence of the Christmas lights and decors is bad business for him and other cab drivers.
“By this time last year, people came from far and near just to take pictures at the beautiful site especially at nights. But this year, nothing is happening here,” he said.
For Mrs. Rhoda Maxwell, who spoke to our correspondent, the FCDA should have squeezed out funds to do the decorations.
“Those days my family and I always traveled out of Abuja during the yuletide to Lagos or Calabar, but when they started doing the decorations, we stayed back because if you take pictures there especially at nights it is like Europe,” she explained.
As at the time of filing this report, no sign that there would be any decorations from the FCDA. Residents of the FCT would have to look elsewhere for their Christmas lights photographs.
