The Muslim Forum Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has freed eight prison inmates after paying their various fines by court of law.
Speaking during the presentation of the money, foodstuff and medicine to the officer in charge of Zaria Central Prison, the leader of the delegation, Professor Muhammad Umar Kawu said the gesture was part of the activities rendered by the forum.
Prof. Umar Kawu added that the forum also repairs the Lister machine that pumps water inside the prison premises to alleviate the water problem the inmates are facing.
The ABU Muslim Forum had a total sum of N250.000 in support of Zaria Prison as part of their Ramadan activities for the year 2018/1439 A. H.
Responding the officer in charge of Zaria Prison, Asst. Controller General, Barrister Umar Bagudu thanked the ABU Muslim forum for their intervention and donations.
Bagudu assured the forum that all what they brought the inmates will enjoyed and benefits from it.
The forum had made several donations worth N1.505m to various segments of the needy ranging from the orphans, widows and the less percolated in the society.
The benefiting communities are families of deceased 15 ABU staff received N15.000 each, 16 families from Samaru and environs (orphans and widows)
received food items worth N80.000 also ABU Central Mosque Imams and other staff received N200.000.
The forum gesture is extended to the Islamiyya teachers on campus with N150.000 and fast breaking reception for University principal officers wich cost N250.000 as well participants of I’tikaf in ABU Central mosque benefited with N150.000.
Also the Zaria Local Government JIBWIS committee on orphans and widows received food items and clothing worth N100.000 and 20 patients currently on admission at emergency ward received N5.000.00 totalling N100.000 respectively.
