Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar was President Muhammadu Buhari’s guest on Tuesday at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Though the purpose of his visit was not clear at the time of this report, the former head of state is believed to have come to express solidarity with Buhari over the recent scathing criticisms and allegations of non performance.
General Abdulsalami who is the Chairman of National Peace Committee is about the only former military head of state that has not spoken publicly against Buhari and his style of governance.
Only recently, former President olusegun Obasanjo wrote a lenghty letter to Buhari accusing him of nepotism and non performance in government. Obasanjo also asked him to forget a re-election come 2019.
Also, about a forthnight ago, former self-styled Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida joined the bandwagon with a letter to Buhari expressing similar sentiments.
Babangida’s letter was followed with a visit to the President by a delegation of Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria led by its President and Archbishop of Jos, Most Rev. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama.
The clerics told President Buhari that his administration had failed to tackle poverty, hunger, insecurity, violence, fear and unemployment.
President Buhari equally played host to two chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Bisi Akande in Aso Rock on Tuesday.
Tinubu’s visit is believed to be in connection with the work of the reconciliation committee to which he was appointed by President Buhari last week.
