Former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori as well as the current Governor of Delta State, Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa and his Bayelsa State Counterpart today eulogized the former Chairman of the Guardian Newspaper Editorial Board, Prof. Gordini.G. Darah on the celebration of his 70th year birthday and his retirement from the Services of the Delta State University, Abraka.
Speaking at the Colloquium/Book Presentation in honour of Prof. G.G. Darah,Chief Ibori appealed to Prof. Gordini .G. Darah to help deal with the problems of the Niger Delta region especially as it relates to activities with illegal bunkering and environmental pollutions.
“Prof. Darah, it is not over yet. We need to think for these people to deal with the problems of these regions. We will have a population that will not deplete if we do not deal with it.”
Ibori noted that there is unemployment amongst youth generally in the country but that they will do every thing possible to ensure that employments are created and given to the Niger Delta youths.
Ibori congratulated Prof. Darah on.his retirement from the services of the Delta State University saying,”You don’t look 70. I want to congratulate you on behalf of my family. We thank God for your life.”
Ibori noted that Prof. Darah worked with him stressing that,”He only came to join us enrich the Government of Delta State and in that wise, he contributed his quota to the development of the State. Prof. Darah advocated for a better living for the people of Niger Delta. “
Ibori revealed how a former President of the country in response to the letter he(Ibori)wrote to him said,”Niger Delta will never have Peace with people like Prof. G.G. Darah with him in Delta State. Thank you for what you’re doing and.still doing. The job is done. “
Delta State Governor, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa who was represented by the Chief of Staff,Government House in Asaba, Mr. Tam Brisibe congratulated Prof. Darah on his retirement and said the revenue of the State has improved since October 2017.
The Bayelsa State Governor,Mr. Seriake Dickson who was also represented by his Chief of Staff stated that Prof. Darah gave intellectual flavour to the Niger Delta struggles.
“My former boss, late Chief Alamieyeseiyegha and Ibori took our struggles to another we cannot imagine. At every stage, when Darah speaks, you will see the intellectual flavour he added to it.”
Other noting personalities also spoke at the colorful event which had in attendance, Dr.Sunny.Awhefeada, Prof. Temi Akporonor, Paul Owumi, Director of Protocol to Chief James Ibori, Sir.
