31st Convocation: Unical Honours Emir Of Borgu, Two Others



The Emir of Borgu in Niger State, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Haliru, the Dantoro Kitoro IV, and a one time Senate leader, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, are amongst the dignitaries to be honoured at the 31st Convocation ceremony of the University of Calabar.

Also, late Architect Michael Archibong, is to receive a post-humous award in Business Administration for his contributions to the institution.

This was disclosed by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof.Zana Akpagu, while briefing newsmen on activities lined up for the celebration of the 31st convocation.

Akpagu said that “as a bridge builder the institution has no other choice than to reach out to people from other parts of the country to honour them with honorary degree awards”.

He commended the good works of late Michael Archibong and Senator Ndoma-Agba to the institution since inception.

According to him, “there is no other way to appreciate these two sons of ours than to give them awards”.

Late Archibong, had built and donated a hostel for clinical doctors in the early years of the institution while Senator Ndoma-Egba is building a gigantic office block for Law Department within the campus.

He described the Law Faculty Complex as a huge investment which when completed, would address the challenges of the department.

The Vice Chancellor announced that a total of 11, 807 students would be awarded various degrees.

Out of this figure, 7,957 are first degree with 42 having First Class, 1,940 Second Class upper, 2nd Class Lower 4,860 while 1,005 are to bag 3rd class.

The breakdown shows PhDs 232, MSc 1,480 while PGD are 464.

He said that 37 ongoing projects would be commissioned during the period.

These include, hostels, parking Lot, Engineering Complex,  laboratories and office complexes.
