Three suspected bandits that specialise in using vehicles painted in Lagos commercial colour to rob innocent passengers popular refer to as ” catch in the air” have been apprehended by police detectives.
According to sources, the suspects were arrested by eagle eyed fire brand operatives of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) after a hot chase last Tuesday.
The suspects named as Ezekiel Andrew, aged 29 years, Sikiru Tajudeen, aged 20 years and Ibrahim Kazeem, aged 30 years were alleged to have robbed some passengers who innocently boarded their vehicle at about 4.00am on 30th October 2018 in Surulere area of the state.
Our correspondent that the suspects had used two Faragon Volkswagen buses painted in Lagos commercial colour with registration number APP 416 XX and SMK 367 XR to canverse their victims and robbed them in the process.
Following a distress call, operatives of the FSARS Ikeja were said to have been drafted to the area to locate and arrest the bandits.
On sighting the operatives, the suspects according to witness speed out, but their operational vehicles were however apprehended after a hot chase.
The three suspects were said to have been arrested in the process and the passengers rescued.
The Commissioner of Police Lagos Command Edgal Imohimi confirmed the arrest during a media briefing at the command headquarter.
Edgal stated that the bandits confessed that they usually rob unsuspecting passengers daily and on the average, they realize over Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300, 000. 00) any day they go out on operation.
He added that the comnand has commenced investigation into the matter and that the suspects will be charge to court.
His words, ” On 30/10/2018 at about 0400 hrs information was received that some robbery gang were sighted along Surulere area of the Lagos, using Volkswagen Buses (DANFO), painted in Lagos commercial colour.
The source revealed that they were robbing passengers who innocently boarded their vehicles.
Based on the information, operatives of the FSARS Ikeja were drafted to the area to locate and arrest the felons.
The presence of the operatives emboldened some passengers already held hostage as they raised the alarm which attracted the operatives.
They were given a hot chase in the process, their operational Volkswagen buses with registration number APP 416 XX and SMK 367 XR were intercepted while three of the robbers were arrested and the passengers rescued.
During interrogation, the robbers confessed that they rob unsuspecting passengers daily and on the average, they realize over Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300, 000. 00) any day they go out on operation.
The names of the suspects are:
(i) Ezekiel Andrew ‘m’ aged 29 years;
(ii) Sikiru Tajudeen ‘m’ aged 20 years and
(iii) Ibrahim Kazeem ‘m’ aged 30 years
Investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charge to court”.
