Ahead of the 2019 general elections, women in Akwa Ibom State have presented an undisclosed amount of money to Governor Udom Emmanuel for the purchase of the party’s nomination form for his re-election.
The women, all of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the presentation during a formal reception and endorsement rally organised for the Governor Emmanuel at Onna township stadium on Saturday.
Organised under the aegis of Eket Senatorial District Women Forum, the deputy speaker of the state house of assembly, Princess Felicia Bassey presented the money on behalf the Forum.
Princess Bassey who was the chairman of the planning committee for the event while presenting the money to the Governor Emmanuel, said the gesture was a practical demonstration by women from the district for the Governor’s re-election to the office.
She also said that the main essence of the reception and endorsement rally organised for the Governor and his wife Martha was to convey to the Governor and his wife, thier satisfaction, appreciation, assurance and readiness to stand by him and his wife till 2023.
“Today event is an affirmation of our love, an expression of profound gratitude, a clear vindication of the trust and hope we had in His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2015 and recertification of trust to guarantee you that 2019 is a foregone conclusion”
The development according to the women was informed by excellent performances of Governor Emmanuel in the area of democratic dividend in the state which have touched lives positively.
They listed some to include empowerment of both women and the youths, inclusive and unbiased template of his administration that has engendered peace and togetherness among citizens of the state.
The ongoing construction of what will become Ibom super highway to open up the space for the reality and functionality of Ibom Deep Seaport, as well as other critical roads cutting across the state among others
Responding, Governor Emmanuel thanked the women for the show of solidarity and support to his administration and reassured them that he would not disappoint them in his commitment to transform the state and make life easy for all.
The Governor advised those among them who do not possess permanent voter card (PVC) to register and have one in order to enable them fulfill their passion for his reelection in the forth coming general election.
He also urged them to come up as a matter of urgency, one viable cottage industry to be sited in each of the three federal constituencies constituting Eket senatorial district so to create multiple employments for the women.
The Governor assured that the industries which would be financed by the state government would be managed by the women, besides the commencement of the second phase of enterprise development scheme to accommodate more women in the state who were not by the first round of the scheme.
Other highlights of the event were good will messages and motion for the endorsement of the Governor for second term in office. The motion was moved Sen. Helen Essuene and supported by a member representing Eket federal constituency in the national assembly, Rep Owoidoho Ekpoatai on behalf the women.
The occasion which attracted cream of personalities from the state with over 60 socio-political women groups converging on the venue of the event, was chaired by the chief executive officer of Hensek Engineering Builders, Mr. Uwem Okoko. The governor’s wife, Martha served as Mother of the Day while the deputy governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo presided as Father of the Day.
