Christians in Nigeria have been advised not to allow themselves to be used as thugs and to shun acts of violence and vices that will bring disgrace to the body of Christ and to pray for the unity of the country as 2019 elections draw near.
This plea was made by Pastor Anthony Ogbohgwu of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Citadel of His Presence Parish, Bayan Dutse at a prayer and fasting program which started on Thursday September 27, 2018 by the church to pray for peaceful elections next year and the unity of the country.
Pastor Anthony said it has become imperative to pray for the unity of the country owing to numerous cases of violence that have befallen the country.
According to him, terrorist groups, herdsmen and kidnappers have overrun our security apparatus, all that Christians should do was pray as they are not known for violence.
“If government can’t protect us, we then ought to pray and not faint. There are people who want to destroy this country and we as Christians should not allow them, we should not allow them to also use us as weapons to bring evil on our country that God himself almagamated,” he pleaded.
The clergyman enjoined Nigerians to put country first and desist from acts of segregation and nepotism, while ensuring they assist government in helping to curb crimes by giving useful information to security operatives irrespective of the their short comings.
Said he, ” we know the corrupt nature of our security operatives, but that shouldn’t deter us from helping government to finding a lasting solution to this menace that is terrorising the wellbeing of this nation.”
In his contribution Mr. Bello Abubakar called on Christians to emulate Jesus Christ by living in peace with one another because the founder of the faith preached and lived in peace.
“Christ taught peace and if we say we’re his followers, his life should reflect in us, otherwise, we are only mocking ourselves,” he added.
In recent times the country has been bombarded by multitudes of challenges especially as it concerns the security of the nation, hence the need to finding a lasting solution to these problems.
The program ends on October 1, 2018.
