Northern Groups under the auspices of Pro-Peoples Democratic Party of Nigeria on Sunday lambasted Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for allegedly plotting to impose Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State as a consensus Presidential Flag bearer for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The group who spoke through its Northern Coordinator, Honorable Aliyu I. Aliyu said PDP has a standard procedure which allows for internal democracy devoid of imposition but inclusive of transparent and credible choice of flag bearers at all primaries.
Aliyu said ‘’the plot by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to impose Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal as the PDP Presidential aspirant for 2019 is highly repugnant, unconstitutional, unprofessional and undemocratic.
“The PDP at this juncture needs a political war horse whose personality can contest and rescue democracy from the incumbent President, a man who understands the political arithmetic, a man who has done it before, a man who is on ground in his State who can lead PDP to do away with this evil government of Muhammadu Buhari.’
‘’I don’t see Tambuwal defeating Buhari in 2019, I don’t even see Tambuwal having back his seat in Sokoto because Sokoto belongs to former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa. The legacies of Governor Tambuwal can’t be over looked but compared to other political Kilimanjaro in the PDP. Tambuwal as a person did not make up APC it was the collective effort of like minds, Kawu Baraje, Atiku Abubakar who has build what the Federal Government failed to do because Atiku Abubakar alone has provided jobs to over 50,000 thousand graduates, Bukola Saraki, Sule Lamido,Rotimi Ameachi, Kwankwaso.’’
Aliyu maintained that ‘’we want somebody who was in the corridor of power before, somebody who understands the political terrain of Nigeria, one who is a dogged fighter, somebody who has a National outlook, people like Atiku Abubakar, Bukola Saraki, people like Kwankwaso, Sule Lamido, and Makarfi these are men who are rooted in national politics.
