The revolution in awareness and enlightenment amongst youths in the country over developments in the build up to the 2019 general elections is overwhelming, Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Niger State, Barrister Tanko Beji has observed with delight.
Barr. Beji said the involvement of youths in partisan politics and the awareness on their civic responsibilities and developments in the polity was commendable and should be harnessed.
He spoke in his office on Thursday while receiving members of the Youth Mobilisation department of the PDP’s gubernatorial standard bearer in the state for next year’s governorship election.
Beji spoke against the backdrop of the ongoing display of list of voters’ names by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) as the exercise entered its second day across the country.
The PDP Chairman said he had noticed that youths in parts of the state had taken painstaking interest on the displayed list of voters to ascertain the names on the voter register as they scrutinized the names to confirm their genuineness or otherwise.
He praised the youths in parts of the state just as he advised young persons to pay greater attention to what the government was doing with public resources and other aspects of public administration.
Barr. Beji said civic education was crucial in the growth and development of a knowledgeable population who could hold their governments accountable at all times.
He similarly advised young persons to avail themselves of the use of mobile phones to report happenings in their localities to the outside world using communications highways chanel through trending platforns and windows on the social media streams to report and attract national and global attention.
The Niger state Chairman of the PDP said the PDP would not relent to speak on absurdities, maladministration and sharp practices ongoing in public sectors under the watchful eyes of the governing All Progressive Congress.
Members of the Youth Mobilization department of the gubernatorial ticket bearer of the PDP in the state were on a mainstreaming visit to the leadership of the party at the PDP Secretariat.
Director of the Youth Mobilization, Abubakar Garba Mohammed, a former commissioner for Youths and Sports Development in the state, had suggested a holistic approach in harnessing the enormous energies, skills and knowledge amongst young persons to make the PDP stronger.
The Director of Youth at the party’s gubernatorial campaign organization said the PDP must not again allow itself to be boxed into any unhealthy corners, saying the party should use young persons to spread awareness amongst the generality of the populace and enlighten members of the public on the failure and inability of those reposed with public trust under the present administration who had abused public trust and confidence.
