Twelve of the 13 African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship aspirants in Oyo State have agreed to adopting consensus method  to select “a presentable, viable and winning candidate for the party in the 2019 general elections.

The 12 governorship aspirants made this known in a communique issued and jointly signed by them after a marathon meeting at Black and White Law Firm, Oke Ado, Ibadan on Wednesday.

“We the undersigned 12 gubernatorial aspirants of ADC Oyo state have agreed that within few days from now, consensus method  be adopted among ourselves to select a presentable, viable and winning candidate among us that will be acceptable to all and sundry for the purpose of winning the gubernatorial election in Oyo state come 2019.” they said.

According to the Communique, the 12 governorship aspirants included
Hon. Festus Wale Adegoke,  Dr. Nurein Aderemi Adeniran,  Mr. Ayodele Adigun,  Dr. Yunus Abiodun Akintunde, Chief Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli,  Amb. Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja and  Senator Andrew Gbenga Babalola.

Others are Dr. Mohammed Kola Balogun,  Chief (Barr) Tirimisiyu Ayanlowo Obisesan, Engr. Raufu Aderemi Olaniyan,  Otunba Oluseye Opatoki and  Engr. Aderemi Oseni.

Sources close to the meeting said the 12 ADC  governorship aspirants also resolved “to select a presentable, viable, and winning candidate”  among them ” for the purpose of winning the gubernatorial election in Oyo state come 2019.”

Part of Communique reads ”  That we jointly appreciate all the efforts of the members of the Screening/Primary Elections Committee of ADC in Oyo state for their gallant efforts and pro-party activities.
That having regard to all relevant laws, guidelines and the constitution of our great party, we are fully aware of the fact that there are three major methods of selecting candidates into elective offices to wit: Direct Primaries, Indirect Primaries or by Consensus.”

” That we further know that due to the time constraint, it is evident that we can no longer conduct either direct or indirect primary elections into various elective offices. That upon a holistic review of the current situation of the party as regards the screening and emergence of candidates for respective offices, it is apposite to categorically state that aside from those who had been given automatic tickets, the emergence of other candidates should be seen to involve all other leaders within their respective constituencies.”

The governorship aspirants added in the communique that ” we the undersigned 12 gubernatorial aspirants of ADC Oyo state have agreed that within few days from now, consensus method  be adopted among ourselves to select a presentable, viable and winning candidate among us that will be acceptable to all and sundry for the purpose of winning the gubernatorial election in Oyo state come 2019.”

It would be recalled that the ADC  leaders on Sunday hurriedly settled for a Dr Dele Ajadi as the tentative governorship candidate for the party in Oyo State so as to be able to meet up with the October 7th deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within which all political parties were expected to have conducted their primaries to field candidates for elective offices following the inability of the party leaders to resolve the controversy over the selection of a governorship candidate for ADC in Oyo state.
