2018 Season: Akwa United Beef Up Team With 16 New Players

Former Captain of Remo Stars, Victor Mbaoma and former Enyimba International Midfielder, Kelly Kester are among 16 top players who joined Akwa United FC of Uyo as the club repositions for 2018 football league season 8 win.
Also signed on are Ubong Essien who played for Welcome Time Soccer Academy, Kano; Emmanuel Charles from Akwa Starlets; Daniel Ekpo from Rivers United; Etboy Akpan from NK Rudar, Slovenia; Ajibola Otegbeye from Sunshine Stars; Aminu Nuhu from Adamawa United and Kenneth James from El-Kanemi Warriors among others
Unveiling the 16 players at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo, yesterday, the Chairman of the Club, Mr. Paul Bassey said the players will exhibit their talents in football and thrill the soccer fans with best of soccer as Akwa United will compete in three competitions this year; The CAF Confederation Cup, NPFL and the Aiteo Cup.
Also the Coach, Mr. Abud Miakaba while speaking with journalists said the aspiration is to build a stronger team for the next five years, adding that the newly signed in players have excellent qualities to make the Club and indeed the State great.
According to him, the players are combinations of young and experienced players who are brought in to replace the lost players who played continental matches and left for other clubs.
He admitted that last season win was not quite perfect but expressed hope that this season would be better with quality play.
Gabriel Wassa, a Niger state born player who is a genius at crosses and has a great eyes for goals, said that he is joining Akwa United to make a different ball game and give for the Club.
The former Remo Stars Captain, Victor Mbaoma on his part said, he is not under pressure, “My mind is to score goals and do my best to make Akwa United shine.”
Also Denis Nya formerly of Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi, who has been assigned jersey number 6 described his contract as a home coming, adding that he would reward Akwa United with the goals he scored against it while playing for his former club.
Meanwhile, the players, management staff, other sport crews and fans of Akwa United FC congregated today at The Apostolic Church, Ukana Onuk Area Headquarters, Ikot Ekpene Field, Essien Udim Local Government Area of the State for a special thanksgiving in appreciation to God benevolences upon the Club while also dedicating the Club to Him for the current league season.
“God was with us last season, we finished 4th in the league for the first time in our history and also won the Aiteo Cup. These are what we couldn’t have achieved on our own, but God made it possible for us, so it is necessary for us to thank God for what he has done and also to hand over the 2018 season to Him in prayer”, these were the prayers.
