2012 Kaduna Int’l Polo starts with colourful ceremony

The 2012 Kaduna International Polo
Tournament had a colourful opening ceremony yesterday at the Ahmadu Yakubu Polo Club House, with several dignitaries, as well as two first class traditional rulers in attendance.
The royal fathers present were the Life President of the Nigeria Polo Federation, Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman and the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Mustapha Aliyu Barkindo.
Other notable dignitaries spotted include former Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Lawal Kaita and the First Vice President of Kaduna Polo Club, Alhaji Mohammed Babangida.
The star match which featured NAHCO CUP saw Kaduna Shefaz Shelter beat Deebee Farms 1 by 8-4 ½.
In an interview with New Nigerian Sports shortly after theopening ceremony, the first Vice President, Alhaji Mohammed Babangida described the opening as colourful.
He explained that the dignitaries that were present, further boosted the ceremony, adding that it was an indication that the one-week tournament will be better than previous editions.
“With the high level of digntaries present, it was quite a good show and we are hoping it gets better as the tournament progresses,” he added.
He explained that yesterday’s games featured the lowest cups, explaining that the high goal games will feature subsequently.
Mohammed Babangida who is the patron of Kaduna El Amin Team will be competing for the Georgian Cup which his team has won back-to-back several times at the tournament which will end on December 15.
