It was a tragedy in Bauchi last Wednesday when a 200 Level student of the AbubakarTafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, was at night reportedly stabbed to death with a knife.
The victim, whose name was given as Yusuf Musa, was until his untimely death, a Mechanical Engineering student of the University.
It was learnt that Musa was killed as a result of a fight triggered by a misunderstanding between him and another fellow student barely three weeks ago.
The deceased was supposed to write his last paper for his first semester in the institution having gotten admission through the Direct Entry in May this year.
Late Yusuf Musa was said to have had an exchange of words with a 500Level student of the Geology Department whose name was given simply as Dauda.
An undisputable source who pleaded anonymity weekend told newsmen that it all started about 3 weeks ago when the deceased, Yusuf Musa and his friend where passing through a road close to the source house.
“In the process, they met Dauda standing with a lady by the road, but he (Dauda), will not allow them pass through. So, Yusuf’s friend started exchanging words with him, but immediately, the deceased started pleading with him to let them pass through as they didn’t know there was no road”.
“Suddenly, Dauda started insulting Musa and this angered him and he also insulted Dauda back, and that was the genesis of the resentment that led to the killing of Musa.”
The source said that the feud between Musa and Dauda continued until on Monday when the later came with five people and descended on Musa giving him the beating of his life and also remove his tooth.
According to the source, the culprit then came back on Wednesday with the same people and wanted to beat him again, but neighbours quickly intervened and they left Musa’s house.
Source also revealed that Later that night, Musa told his friend about Dauda’s constant harassment, ‘The friend and some other friends alongside decided to go and meet Dauda in his home, probably to fight him or settle scores, I really don’t know for what reason’.
“It was after that, that we heard that Musa was hit with a big stick
and then stabbed with a knife. All of the two camps ran away leaving him in the pool of his blood.”
The source added that it was a Good Samaritan that rushed Musa to the hospital where he later died.
“Late Yusuf Musa was a very kind gentleman. If you ever meet him you will easily like him because he is very friendly,” source concluded.
When contacted over the phone, The ATBU Public Relations Officer, Zailani Bappah when contacted said the Management of the institution had no comment to make yet regarding the incident as it was with the Police.
He said although both the deceased and the culprit are all students of the institution, the incidence did not happen on the school facility.
“Yes, I am aware of the incident and they are our students. But I must tell you that this did not happen on either the Yelwa Campus or the Gubi Campus. It didn’t happen on the school facility.
“This is not our case but that of the Police. I can only refer you to the Police. The Management is not officially aware of it; we are only on-lookers. We are also waiting for them (Police) to give us details of their investigations. We cannot say anything for now, go and meet the PPRO”, Bappah said.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mahmood Mohammed has told the press that the case is under investigation.
