Kad. Polo: Emir of Katsina Cup will feature more teams next year – Tourney Manager

From JACOB ONJEWU DICKSON, Kaduna
More teams are expected to compete for the Emir of Katsina Cup in next year’s Kaduna International Polo Tournament because more higher handicap of players will emerge at the Nigeria Polo Federation (NPF) Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held at the Kaduna Polo Club this week.
Tournament Manager of the club, Ibrahim Abba disclosed this while speaking to New Nigerian Sports on Monday at the club’s premises.
He said the Emir of Katsina Cup this year could not attract several teams because it is a high goal match that requires several horses and high handicapped players.
“Competing for the Emir of Katsina Cup is a big task that is why we have fewer teams this year. You need lots of horses, the difference between the Georgian Cup and this one is just one chukker.
“Handicap is to be raised at the end of this tournament so we will have more players expected to feature for the Emir of Katsina Cup next year,” he said.
Abba described the 2015 tourney as very successful so far, saying he was impressed by the number of fans that have thronged the Ahmadu Yakubu Polo Club House so far.
“The tournament has been wonderful, so far, so good. We started on a good note and we are believing God that we will conclude on a good note,” Abba who is the tournament manager for an enviable fifth term stated.
