Disturbed by dwindling heritage and dying potentials, Plateau State Government has concluded plans to stage the Maiden edition of Plateau Carnival in Jos, the state capital, scheduled to hold from March 15 – 17, 2017.
The Plateau State Commissioner of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality, Mr. John Peter Mwankom who disclosed to members of the Plateau Initiative for the Development and Advancement of the Natives, PIDAN, during their National Council Meeting held at the NUJ Press Center in jos,
He noted that to usher in the event, the Cannibal Logo shall be unveiled tomorrow Tuesday March, 2017 in Jos.
Mr. Mwankon, who conveyed Governor Simon Bako Lalong’s solidarity message to the meeting, expressed the State Government desire to partner with PIDAN, being the umbrella body of all Indigenous Community Development Associations in the State in several areas, and advised them to streamline their cultural calendar to enable full government participation at all the festivities.
He appealed to leaders of the respective Development Associations in the State to separate cultural festivals with Appeal Fund launchings. This he opined will create rooms for the total display of their respective cultural values.
The state is currently experiencing a total decay in its tourism and cultural problems owing to the aged long ethno-religious crisis .
